RAM SRT-10

The RAM SRT-10

Another short-lived car that came and went. I’ve had the Raptor for about 5 years now and was looking for an alternative, but it is such as great vehicle it is a hard act to follow. The truck bed is useful too when you have as many projects and parts to haul around as I do.

So, another truck was on the cards – but what could lure me away from the Raptor?

Only a 6sp manual 8.3l V10 of course, enter the 2004 Ram SRT-10. Again advertised on Dubizzle, it was tired and had been run on a budget, but by an enthusiast/mechanic. Often not the best combination!

A black single-cab, lowered just the right amount with cal-track bars and debadged. It was a beast. It needed a fair few bits sorting, but with help from a friend who had experience with them and some local knowledgeable garages, it was soon finessed and back on the road. A bit of trim here and there, the missing rear wing sourced from the States and a bed cover and it was done. Well almost – the seats where trash. I later checked various sources and it had come from the US in about 2008 flood damaged. Everything had been sorted over the years, but the seats and their mechanisms were rusty  & toast. I swapped them out for a set from a salvaged SRT8 challenger, the bases needed sorting but they were a massive improvement.

It was hilarious to drive – but then it struck me, it could never replace the Raptor. There was too much drama, there was no back seat to throw things on or carry passengers, the spoiler looked cool but made it tough to get things into the bed, the silly cover I bought was a pain to roll…

So, I sold it and the Raptor lived on, for a while…
