’35 Zundapp – Time to get it running.
Yes, finally time to get the ’35 Zundapp KK200 running. After all, having had Zundapp added to the RTA database for the Bellas it should be easy to register the KK.
First, some work on the carb, we tried a new one and then ended up refurbishing the existing one. Fixed the return spring on the kick start and success we got her running. However the old generator just wasn’t up to its job anymore and sourcing one would prove a nightmare so I opted to do a modern powerdynamo upgrade. Not cheap, but simple in principle, it should be almost invisible once installed and I’d be able to do away with the battery.
Life is never that simple though. Try as I might, I couldn’t get the bolt than holds the generator winding in place off. I eventually took it to AAA to weld on a nut to gain some leverage, but that didn’t work. They sent it to a machine show, but again no joy.
I think I know the problem, so when I get the bike home – and heat permitting, I’ll have anither go myself – I think I’ve worked out it was all in a bad brief from me. We were bracing the winding and turning against that… but on inspection the bolt goes to the crank, so we need to brace that. In effect we were turning against a woodruff key, well, trying too.
